Burn the Witch (2021) [20"x16"] is a mixed-media acrylic painting on hard canvas that explores modern-day bullying and public shaming through social media, drawing a parallel to the persecution and burning of accused witches throughout history. Figures burn as their skin melts away and scatters into the wind, while simultaneously consoling the central figure being publicly attacked online. The painting reflects on how the methods of collective punishment may change, while the human impulse to shame, condemn, and participate in the destruction of others remains.
