Cats On Drugs No. 2 is another surreal addition to the Cats On Drugs series, pushing its world into an even more playful, cracked-out, violent, and absurd direction. Cats are puppeted by human hands that push through their bodies, contort their faces, and pop out their eyeballs, while a variety of drugs are consumed amid increasingly bizarre behavior. Despite the chaos, the cats remain oddly cute.

Light bulbs appear throughout the painting as symbols of ideas that are generated, pursued, observed, and occasionally possessed by the cats themselves. Beneath them are Brillo pads covered in scribbled “meow, meow” notes, a book about WWIII, and a VHS copy of Stargato, starring Kurt Ruffles and James Pawder.

Recurring objects from the series fill the background, including Luigi Serafini’s Codex Seraphinianus, Charles Bukowski’s Love Is a Dog from Hell, and sticky notes covered in crudely drawn dicks. Luna moths and fireflies drift through the scene, inspired by love, memory, and the East Coast.

The result is a collision of violence, humor, nostalgia, drugs, cats, and strange little fragments of human existence, all wrapped inside something that somehow still feels cute.
